Tricon Materials has a long-standing history in the aggregate industry, dating back to 1968 when it was founded by Richard 'Dick' Nelson as Walnut Sand and Gravel. The company operated gravel pits in Illinois, providing top-quality washed aggregates for various construction applications, including asphalt, concrete, and base materials. In 1992, Tri-Con Materials was formed by Richard Nelson along with partners Steve Nelson and Steve Harmon. In 1997, Tri-Con Materials merged with Walnut Sand and Gravel to become the operating entity it is today.
